About the Project

The King's Warwick Project is the result of a successful joint HEFCE funded bid by King’s College London and the University of Warwick designed to develop the undergraduate curriculum.

The Project aims to explore graduate capabilities developed in the teaching and learning practices at two Russell Group universities with the intended outcome being a 'blueprint' for research-led teaching to inform policy in other HE institutions.

The Project will identify capabilities that it views as essential outcomes of learning and that are central in enabling our graduates to live successful personal and professional lives. It is intended that students will be enabled to develop these capabilities by experiencing the characteristics of:

  • A research-led learning environment
  • Interdisciplinary study
  • A globally-oriented curriculum
  • Community engagement, internationally as well as in the UK
  • An environment that stimulates academic literacy

Outputs

Outputs will include:

  • A survey report of existing practice across both institutions in relation to research-led, interdisciplinary, globally-oriented, community-engaged and academically literate teaching and assessment
  • A report on “best practice” in peer institutions that have instituted major curriculum change, with recommendations for strategic management of main project
  • Implementation plan for each of the ten projects, paired in five themes, to develop enhanced curricula and approaches to assessment broadly across both institutions wherever appropriate
  • Key performance indicators for each capability
  • Designs for new courses and elements of courses that will enable the development of the capabilities
  • Initial report from panel of community stakeholders and employers who will work with university staff to review a currency of capabilities and to explore their meaning across the range of learning contexts
  • Strategic level plan for full-scale implementation across the institutions, in ways appropriate to each of them
  • Report on curriculum leadership development needs
  • Plan for meeting curriculum leadership development need
  • Plan for research and evaluation processes to support the initiative through continual feedback at all levels

The project is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
